Historic changes in demographics
Pennsylvania is experiencing a profound demographic transformation. Today, more than 1.3 million Latinos call the Commonwealth home—making them the fastest-growing and youngest ethnic group in the state. This surge is reshaping communities, strengthening the workforce, and influencing the future of Pennsylvania’s economy, education system, and civic life.
222 Latino Corridor: Corazón de la Comunidad - THE HEARTBEAT OF THE COMMUNITY
The 222 Corridor takes its name from Route 222—but for Pennsylvania’s Latino community, it represents something far greater. Stretching across Easton, Bethlehem, Allentown, Reading, Lancaster, Lebanon, York, Harrisburg, Gettysburg, and surrounding areas, this region is home to more than half of the state’s total Latino population.
Today, we can say with confidence: the 222 Latino Corridor is the heart of the Latino community—el corazón de la comunidad.
Six of the eight Pennsylvania cities with the largest Latino populations are located within this corridor, underscoring its significance as a cultural, economic, and civic hub. This influence is even more evident in education. School districts in Reading, Allentown, Lancaster, and Lebanon now serve majority Latino student populations—with Reading exceeding 80%, and Allentown and Lancaster each surpassing 60%. These numbers are not just statistics; they are a powerful reflection of a new generation shaping the Commonwealth’s future.
Hosting the annual Pennsylvania Latino Convention in the 222 Latino Corridor is both intentional and symbolic. It reaffirms the region’s unprecedented growth and recognizes the opportunity to build and advance a unified, statewide Latino agenda—one that reaches and uplifts communities across all 67 counties.
The Latino heart—el corazón Latino—is beating stronger than ever in Pennsylvania. And its rhythm is driving the future of our Commonwealth.
